Savvy Knowledge is built on over forty years of peer-reviewed research in human performance, skill acquisition, and technology-enabled learning.
That research did not stay in the laboratory. It became the methodology behind every engagement, and the foundation of Move Improve.
Our academic partnerships are active and ongoing. New findings are peer-reviewed, published, and folded back into how we work. When an organization deploys Move Improve, they are adopting an approach that has already been tested, validated, and published.

Dr. Larry Katz
Founder, Chief Science Officer

Dr. Larry Katz, an award-winning developer and producer of interactive multimedia applications, was Professor and Director of the Sport Technology Research Laboratory (STRL) in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary from January 1985 to September 2020. He is an Educational Psychologist interested in how people learn and in improving human performance through innovation and technology. His research interests include sport technology, performance analysis, virtual environments, virtual rehabilitation, multimedia design and development, collaborative online learning, wireless technology, and health education.
Dr. Katz is also a co-founder of the Canadian Centre for Exergaming Research and the Centre for Video and Performance Analysis.
He developed and taught courses in computer applications in kinesiology and educational technology; has edited and published numerous papers, chapters and proceedings on educational technology, performance analysis and multimedia applications in kinesiology; hosted and chaired numerous national and international conferences and symposia; and developed over 40 multimedia programs and websites in Kinesiology and Education.
During his research, he developed the multimedia self and peer-to-peer learning platform we call Move Improve and received a patent on the process involved.

His diverse interests have led him to research and present on topics including flipped learning, assessment practices, inclusivity, and peer‑to‑peer learning.
He strategically guides organizations to clearly define learning goals, establish metrics, and measure performance so learning drives real impact. Dr. Nesa Keshavarz Moghadam

Dr. Nesa Keshavarz Moghadam is an interdisciplinary researcher with expertise in designing, conducting, and evaluating research across academia, healthcare, government, and industry. She holds a PhD in Sport Biomechanics, completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Calgary, and has conducted research at leading Canadian institutions including the University of Alberta. Her diverse experience provides her with a broad perspective on research, innovation, and knowledge translation.
Nesa specializes in designing and evaluating research that informs decision-making and drives innovation. Her expertise includes quantitative and qualitative methods, program evaluation, data analysis, user experience research, and the development of technology-enabled solutions. Throughout her career, she has contributed to projects spanning health, learning, human performance, organizational development, and emerging technologies.

Josh Malate

Josh is an Engineer turned Entrepreneur. In a previous life, Josh founded, grew and sold a real estate investment company that owned a portfolio of properties across Alberta. As an Engineer, Josh worked on projects and programs in the public sector which included: the WestLRT, Blue Cart Recycling Program and 7th Avenue Refurbishment.
As a self-professed idea junkie, Josh can often be found working with high-growth organizations, investing in start-ups, or collaborating with thought leaders in the areas of entrepreneurship, public policy and innovation.
Josh’s passion for the Calgary community has led him to become an active participant as a board member of the Highbanks Society, Enviros Wilderness School Association and the Aspire Legal Access Initiative. In addition, Josh is a longtime supporter of youth education in music, where he impacted thousands of individuals through his work with Bishop Grandin High School, Rhapsody Winter Corp and Youth Programs at the Calgary Stampede

Babar is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 14 years of leadership in complex project delivery across landmark infrastructure, automotive manufacturing, and heavy industry.
He has held senior engineering roles at some of Canada's most recognizable facilities, including the CN Tower, and has led capital programs in zero-downtime environments serving millions of people.
Babar has helped technology companies navigate government funding, competitive procurement, and commercialization, supporting multiple successful awards through federal innovation programs including Innovation Solutions Canada, the Canadian Space Agency, NRC-IRAP, and Alberta Innovates.
As Director of Strategy and Partnerships, Babar brings to Savvy Knowledge a combination of hands-on engineering leadership and federal funding strategy. -
